If you’ve been listening to the new hot single “I Do Not Hook Up” by Kelly Clarkson, we’ve got a newsflash for you: it was originally written by Katy Perry!
If you didn’t know this already, go back and listen to “I Do Not Hook Up”. While the lyrics fit perfectly with Clarkson’s usual “girl-power-while-moping-about-a-guy” mantra, the pop/rock vibe is totally Perry’s.
According to MTV.com, Perry wrote “I Do Not Hook Up” with now-Idol judge Kara DioGuardi several years ago for her own album, but the song didn’t quite make the cut for her album One of the Boys.
It did make the cut, however, for Kelly Clarkson’s new album, All I Ever Wanted. The original Idol winner also re-recorded another song of Perry’s, entitled “Long Shot”.
“I got ‘Long Shot’ and I said ‘Oh if you have any other material?’ and so then ‘I Do Not Hook Up’ came down the pipeline and I loved it obviously, it’s an anthem“, said Clarkson of the songs.
