Remember back when Usher was focused on being a good father and husband, dispelling any thoughts of ever leaving his wife? His last album served as a dedication to his marriage and the supposed evolution in maturity to his becoming a grown man, leaving his “playa” lifestyle behind.
Fast forward to NOW…
Usher is about to become single man again, after he finalizes his divorce from his former stylist-now-ex-wife, Tameka Foster, of course.
The latest single from the R&B singer is, basically, the complete opposite the purpose of his last album Here I Stand. The first single, “Papers”, is an obvious venting session over the breakdown of his marriage and the return to his “playa” form and also seems to criticize his ex-wife directly, stating that she was the reason that he lost his connection with his mother and was the reason for his change in his lifestyle – almost calling himself a phony during the marriage. Ouch!
It’s an extremely personal song for Usher, who is looking to regain his spot as the top guy in R&B music today.
